Time: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM MST

This webinar explores what it means to provide meaningful, intersectional support for LGBTQ+ people, particularly within immigrant communities. Co-presented by Castro (they/elle) of Rocky Mountain Equality and Val Ponce (they/them) of Aliadxs, this session will move beyond single-issue approaches to examine how identity, systems, and lived experience intersect in real-world advocacy. Together, we will walk through key considerations for supporting LGBTQ+ survivors and community members, including language access, cultural responsiveness, and the unique challenges faced by immigrant communities. Time will be reserved for Q&A.
Presenters:
Val Ponce Najera (they/them) is a Denver-based translator, interpreter, educator, and founder of Aliadxs. Originally from Chihuahua, México, their work focuses on the intersectional inclusion of LGBTQIA2S+, Latinx, and immigrant communities through inclusive language, liberatory education, and culturally responsive practices. Through workshops, consulting, and language services, Val helps organizations create more accessible and affirming spaces and meaningfully engage multilingual and LGBTQ+ communities.
Castro (they/elle) is a Colorado-based LGBTQ+ educator and civic engagement leader and the Education and Training Manager at Rocky Mountain Equality (RMEQ). They design and lead statewide initiatives focused on strengthening institutional accountability and expanding LGBTQ+ access to safety and belonging. Castro has trained more than 3,500 professionals, partnering with public safety agencies, advocates, and community leaders to improve responses to bias-motivated crimes, emergency preparedness, and inclusive policies.
