Description
This webinar is aimed at giving practical tools and considerations for individuals interested in offering support groups for survivors of sexual violence, trauma, and abuse. Although sexual violence is a prevalent and common experience of many, the majority of survivors find themselves feeling isolated and suffering alone. Intentionally focused support groups for survivors can be an important resource to alleviate the isolation and build community. During a time where mental health resources and resources to support survivors are being significantly cut, this webinar hopes to help build the skills of individuals interested in offering this resource within their own communities.
This webinar focuses on:
- identifying important considerations when creating a group
- tools to build your curriculum
- tips on facilitating a trauma-informed group
This webinar is aimed at supporting mental health professionals, healing professionals, community members, and others that are interested in holding intentional space to support people healing from sexual violence.
Presenter:
Alex is a trauma therapist that has been practicing since 2020. Her practice started in DC and Virginia, where she continues to see clients virtually but now lives and practices in Denver, CO as well. Alex is trained in Sensorimotor, IFS, and other mindful somatic approaches to support her work with clients. Alex has created her own support group for survivors in the past and worked at the Wings Foundation for two years as a support group facilitator, intake clinician, and team lead. Alex loves working with survivors in group settings as so often she hears how isolating this experience is, even if it is so common. She has found group work to be transformative and hopes more individuals feel empowered to gather community in ways that feels authentic to themselves.Â
