Description:
Join our webinar, “Housing Protections for Victim-Survivors of Gender-Based Violence,” where we’ll explore essential housing protections at both federal and state levels. We’ll start by examining the link between housing instability and gender-based violence, then dive into the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and its housing protections, including eviction rights and remedies. The session will also cover Colorado’s unique laws, such as lease break options, eviction protections, and the Stable Housing for Survivors Program, with a comparison to VAWA. Finally, we’ll highlight the Colorado Address Confidentiality Program and other key resources for survivors.
Presenters:
Olivia Kohrs, Managing Attorney (she/her) – is a housing attorney and managing attorney at Colorado Poverty Law Project (CPLP) where she manages community engagement, including the production of training and educational materials, as well as CPLP’s pro bono volunteer program. Prior to joining CPLP she was a civil rights attorney at an immigration firm where she focused on immigrants’ rights through federal litigation. In law school, she represented state and federal incarcerated individuals in civil rights actions through the University of Denver’s Civil Rights Clinic.
Ariane Frosh, Housing Attorney + Gender Advocacy in Housing Initiative Lead (she/her) – with a background in gender and reproductive justice, Ariane brings a client-centric and intersectional approach to her housing justice work at CPLP. Born and raised in Denver, Ariane is passionate about amplifying access to justice for the state’s most marginalized groups and believes that safe and secure housing is a foundational right of all Coloradans. As Gender Advocacy in Housing Lead, Ariane advocates for housing justice of victim-survivors of gender-based violence. Before law school, Ariane worked for Senator Michael Bennet and in the Obama Administration, and clerked at the Colorado Court of Appeals prior to joining CPLP. Ariane earned her J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School and her bachelor’s degree from Beloit College.
