In the current historical and cultural moment, we face strong resistance to DEI work. Why now, and how can we be better prepared as we confront these challenges? We will examine strategies for responding in the moment, as well as ways of reframing our DEI work to preempt resistance from the start.<\/p>\n
Dr. Abby Ferber<\/strong>\u00a0is Professor of Sociology and Women\u2019s and Ethnic Studies. She has written and edited many books and articles about race, gender and sexuality, intersectionality and privilege.\u00a0Dr. Andrea Herrera<\/strong>\u00a0is a Professor of Women\u2019s and Ethnic Studies and the former Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. She is also a poet, literary critic, and the author of a number of books, essays and journal articles. Both Ferber and Herrera are published scholars in the field of teaching, learning, inclusive leadership and pedagogy. Together, they co-founded the Women\u2019s and Ethnic Studies major and program, as well as the Matrix Center for the Advancement of Social Equity and Inclusion at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. Their signature program is the national Knapsack Institute: Transforming Teaching and Learning. We co-edited The Matrix Reader: Examining the Dynamics of Oppression and Privilege.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
