The geographical layout of Colorado and the fact that trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) are hard to come by can create barriers to survivors getting the care they need. Additionally, having trained SANEs is only half the battle. Some rural on-call SANE programs may only see a few patients each month, and many of their SANEs can go several months in between each exam. As a result, it can be challenging for these providers to offer a comprehensive medical forensic exam that patients desperately need.<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado SANE\/SAFE Project\u2019s (COSSP) mission is to provide statewide education, technical assistance, and support to all sexual assault programs throughout Colorado. Together with the Sexual Assault Response Project (SARP), telehealth is one way to offer support from experienced SANEs to SANEs at remote sites in real-time during the medical forensic exam.
